You may download thousands of the greatest free iPhone and iPad games for nothing at all. One of the main reasons the iPhone is one of the top phones available right now is the sheer variety.
The problem is that a lot of them are so bad that they would look embarrassing on a home computer from the 1980s or include so much freemium junk that it would choke a hippo. Still, the standouts are among the greatest free mobile games available. At Stuff, we’re all about the greatest games available for iPhone and iPad right now!
We’ve outlined our current favorites below and divided up the more established options into categories, such as racers, puzzlers, and pretty much everything in between, to help you discover your next mobile fixation.
10 Asphalt 9: Legends
Arcade racers eventually lose any sense of reality, but it makes them all the better for it. Instead of being concerned with insignificant details like an actual car’s incapacity to fly hundreds of meters through the air or drift endlessly around magnificently sweeping bends, Asphalt focuses on players zooming around imaginative and beautifully rendered courses, occasionally slamming opponents into walls just because they can.
It’s grindy and shoppy, and it doesn’t even require you to steer by default. Rather, you plan your path and pace your actions. However, it functions well and offers numerous hours of thrilling racing, making it one of the best free games you can play without breaking the bank.
9 Data Wing
Data Wing might be the best deal available for mobile devices. Someone would permanently adhere it to the top of the gratis games charts if there was any justice. However, everything appears so straightforward at first: you play as a top-down racer, zooming around simple circuits and earning momentum by scuffing the edges of the track.
However, the racing is only a small portion of what quickly becomes clear to be a vast neon-infused adventure with sections reminiscent of the iconic 8-bit game Thrust, a world beyond the screen, and a demented AI. There are hours of entertaining arcade action interspersed with a deep, well-written story; there are neither advertisements nor IAPs.
8 Beach Buggy Racing 2
Kart races on the iPhone and iPad, for whatever reason, don’t have a great record; they’re either as fast and durable as a Sinclair C5, or they’re just as bad – like a Sinclair C5. It’s a little different with Beach Buggy Racing 2.
The game moves along quite smoothly right away. Its beautiful images are airy and vibrant. In one course, you can knock large crabs off a beach, and in another, there’s a gigantic dragon that wants to make you seem like a flambé special.
There is a grind and the occasional hard spike, and it is annoying that there are never enough cups—you may only select from two races at a time. Other than that, though, this is as near to Mario Kart-style games as you can get on your iPhone right now.
7 Disc Drivin’ 2
It turns out that one of the greatest free racers available for Apple devices is turn-based and lacks automobiles. In Disc Drivin’ 2, you compete with players online by tossing your disc over cleverly constructed courses that are suspended in midair. With up to two swipes every turn and some useful boost power, you can quickly dispatch your opponent and then bide your time to watch how they react.
We’re sure it all seems quite strange, but Disc Drivin’ 2 is a gripping and interesting film. There are also speedrun challenges and daily collect ’em up races for when you really want to go for it without waiting for someone else to take your turn.
To put it briefly, this unusual combination of Wipeout and Shovel Ha’penny is incredibly effective.
Sports games
6 Rocket League Sideswipe
Play sports games on a console. Rocket League experiments with the ridiculous by fusing cars and footie. The mobile version of Rocket League Sideswipe addresses how to implement the idea. It might have been an IAP-happy, stripped-down red-card moment that insulted the original’s devotees. Rather, this mobile endeavor is so entertaining that it renders the console game obsolete.
The game is now side-on, with one or two rocket-powered cars racing around an arena on either side in an attempt to slam a massive ball into enormous goalmouths. Seasons change things up by including modes centered around sports like volleyball and basketball. As of the time of writing, it is incredibly captivating and free of the obscene content typically present in games for mobile devices. First, the top of the table.
5 Super Arcade Football
Sensible World of Soccer is the greatest football game ever, and this free download is the closest you can go on an iPhone. Dinky players run across a pitch, booting the ball about like they’re playing pinball. Practicality? Ah. However, the excitement of the game accurately captures what it feels like to play football.
Much like the Sensi games, this one has a cheeky tongue. A few cruel cut scenes are a mistake, but other than that, the ridiculous pitch customization (dirt pits, meteor impacts), or the way the game features nearly as much violence as Speedball 2, with the referees being surprisingly reluctant to call fouls, make you smile. An amusing retro game, then? Yes, but also one that is playable and often thrilling.

4 Super Stickman Golf 3
Super Stickman Golf 3’s precursor is fundamentally the same Apple II Artillery game as Angry Birds, but Noodlecake’s game is far more entertaining than hurling birds in all directions, making it one of the greatest free games available.
You will be thwacking balls around enormous forests, space stations that are noticeably devoid of gravity, and bizarre strongholds with an oddly high number of deadly lasers in this larger-than-life side-on mini-golf extravaganza.
While the single-player version of SSMG 3 is entertaining, the multiplayer mode really shines, whether you want to play the slower-paced turn-by-turn mode or the fast-paced race mode. Even though the free edition has significant limitations (fewer concurrent turn-based games and a smaller selection of courses), there is still a ton of really insane golf to be played here.
What a hazard: Deep Golf
If frenetic golfing shenanigans lead to you having heart palpitations, try Deep Golf instead. Its zen-like action takes place deep underground, on procedurally generated cartoonish courses as you swing and putt your way to the centre of the Earth.
3 Pumped BMX Flow
As in previous Pumped BMX games, Flow features your furiously pedaling hero taking off via absurdly tall ramps to execute a variety of spectacular stunts before hopefully landing safely (i.e., not on their head) and repeating the entire experience.
Flow has songs that are generated procedurally and have the potential to go on forever, but even if you become extremely skilled, your fingers will eventually tire out. Nevertheless, you can get completely “zen” with this BMX racer and unwind on endless circuits.
2 Pocket Run Pool
It’s fun to smack balls around a genuine pool table. Since the computer opponent’s “brain” can calculate flawless shots in a fraction of the time it takes you to blink, it frequently ruins gaming experiences. In order to counter this, Pocket Run Pool skillfully eliminates all opponents, allowing the player to rely solely on arithmetic, strategy, and a good degree of aim.
The game is played on a simple table, top-down. Multipliers are found in pockets. Ball number x pocket multiplier determines how many points are granted; multipliers rotate when each ball is pocketed, so you have to strategize to earn the highest score. All things considered, this is a rather clever take on pool for the traveling lone player.
Platform games
1 Kitty Death Room
Though we don’t know exactly what’s going on, the cat in this platform puzzler appears to be in bad shape. Every somewhat compact level is filled with lethal obstacles, and the brave moggy must find a way out. The cat must frequently consume green pellets in order to expel ghostly replicas of itself, which can subsequently be utilized as platforms.
As if it weren’t strange enough, mysterious conversations with spectral people take place in eerie between-level spaces, adding to the potential for death. Even so, there are always more chances to accomplish your objectives; death is not the end.
All of which implies that the cat may be struggling to escape from a horrible purgatory for cats. Even still, you will enjoy yourself in this challenging mobile game, despite the cat’s frequent accidents.
